Have you ever found yourself checking, flagging, or modifying countless orders in your WMS system with redundant information, such as marking flags, filling out additional information, or modifying orders to meet a specific need before processing?

This process can be time-consuming, prone to human error, and sometimes even frustrating.

The good news is that techSHIP Plus and Enterprise have two tools to take care of these heavy loads for you!

First and foremost, the OMR (Order Management Rules) module allows you to analyze order information coming from your WMS with as many conditions as necessary and, based on the outcome of the evaluation, apply a set of actions automatically, ranging from basic ones like using flags, to more complex ones, like specifying under which Carrier, Service Level or what particular Billing Account your order should be processed through.

So, let’s think about a real-life scenario: The warehouse has signed a contract with a new client to ship domestic and international orders. There are a few exclusive SKUs they have that are very fragile and should be handled with care, and for that reason, there are a few considerations to take care of for any order containing them:

  • Insurance must be applied without exception
  • The declared value must be automatically calculated based on the number of SKUs included in the shipment
  • The warehouse will pay duties costs in advance, and the Terms field should clarify so
  • The Instructions to the Carrier field should consist of the legend “Fragile – Handle with care.

All these can be quickly get set and handled through a single OMR rule that detects if the ship-to country is different from the ship-from one, and if any of the fragile SKUs is part of the order, and applies the insurance flag, auto-calculates the declared value, and assigns and writes DDP and the Fragile legend in the corresponding fields.

Any orders not meeting the criteria will be handled typically, but those that do will get the set of actions applied without additional effort.

Secondly, the Advanced Restrictions allow you to add different levels and layers of logic to your rate shopping to enable or block carriers and services depending on additional conditions you might set.

For example, for this same client and scenario, you could set rules that upgrade shipping automatically to 1 or 2-day delivery as long as specific conditions are met, such as containing a specific promotional SKU as part of the order, if the order is over a particular weight, dimensions, amount of packages, or even total order value, among many other actions and criteria.

Every order handled by techSHIP this way is time and work you don’t spend on redundant or complex controls and assignments, a charge not subject to human error, and ultimately, an order which is not a problem or an obstacle to your operations.

Leap into the future of having techSHIP do the heavy lifting and get started with these two powerful tools: Order Management Rules and Advanced Restrictions.
