      Choosing the Correct System

      Techdinamics Integrations

      28 March 2023 - 1 Min Read

In today’s E-commerce world, choosing the correct system based on your business needs and operations is critical. Whether you are a 3PL, 4PL, Manufacture, Vendor, or someone starting up a new e-commerce business, it is crucial to understand the different types of systems and which fit you best.

There are hundreds of different systems on the market today. The most key systems you may have heard about our WMS (Warehouse Management System), shopping carts, OMS (Order Management System), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), etc.

So, how do you choose the right platform tailored for your business? In our experience, it comes down to two primary elements: your role in the supply chain (e.g., warehouse or manufacturer) and the system's primary use. For instance, if you are a 3rd Party Fulfilment warehouse, you will likely look at warehouse management systems rather than ERP systems due to the WMS's features and capabilities.

Of course, many other questions must be considered, but below are some key questions that can help you decide on the correct system.

      • What are the startup costs vs. monthly costs?
      • What is the ROI?
      • How easy is it to connect to the system?
      • Will this system improve current processes or increase touchpoints?
      • What type of reporting and business analytics are provided?
      • What does the startup and training process look like?
      • What is the process for adding product enhancements and new features?
      • Is this system scalable? How will it handle future volume projections?
      • What are the gaps? Does the system have a partner network that can help fill those gaps?

It is critical to understand the selected system's roadmap and interest in enhancing its technology to adapt to current and future market trends. We have heard too many horror stories of companies investing hundreds of thousands of dollars only to realize the system they've selected is not scalable or customizable, forcing them to restart their hunt for a new approach to support their (changing) business needs. It is essential to demo as many systems on the market as possible to understand better what is available and how the system will increase proficiencies within the operations.

Have you ever found yourself checking, flagging, or modifying countless orders in your WMS system with redundant information, such as marking flags, filling out additional information, or modifying orders to meet a specific need before processing?

This process can be time-consuming, prone to human error, and sometimes even frustrating.

The good news is that techSHIP Plus and Enterprise have two tools to take care of these heavy loads for you!

First and foremost, the OMR (Order Management Rules) module allows you to analyze order information coming from your WMS with as many conditions as necessary and, based on the outcome of the evaluation, apply a set of actions automatically, ranging from basic ones like using flags, to more complex ones, like specifying under which Carrier, Service Level or what particular Billing Account your order should be processed through.

So, let’s think about a real-life scenario: The warehouse has signed a contract with a new client to ship domestic and international orders. There are a few exclusive SKUs they have that are very fragile and should be handled with care, and for that reason, there are a few considerations to take care of for any order containing them:

      • Insurance must be applied without exception
      • The declared value must be automatically calculated based on the number of SKUs included in the shipment
      • The warehouse will pay duties costs in advance, and the Terms field should clarify so
      • The Instructions to the Carrier field should consist of the legend “Fragile – Handle with care.

All these can be quickly get set and handled through a single OMR rule that detects if the ship-to country is different from the ship-from one, and if any of the fragile SKUs is part of the order, and applies the insurance flag, auto-calculates the declared value, and assigns and writes DDP and the Fragile legend in the corresponding fields.

Any orders not meeting the criteria will be handled typically, but those that do will get the set of actions applied without additional effort.

Secondly, the Advanced Restrictions allow you to add different levels and layers of logic to your rate shopping to enable or block carriers and services depending on additional conditions you might set.

For example, for this same client and scenario, you could set rules that upgrade shipping automatically to 1 or 2-day delivery as long as specific conditions are met, such as containing a specific promotional SKU as part of the order, if the order is over a particular weight, dimensions, amount of packages, or even total order value, among many other actions and criteria.

Every order handled by techSHIP this way is time and work you don’t spend on redundant or complex controls and assignments, a charge not subject to human error, and ultimately, an order which is not a problem or an obstacle to your operations.

Leap into the future of having techSHIP do the heavy lifting and get started with these two powerful tools: Order Management Rules and Advanced Restrictions.

3 Ways In Which Rate Shopping Will Help You Fulfill Delivery Promises

Shipment and delivery strategies are crucial for e-commerce businesses. Regardless of the quality of your product and design of your website, if you offer limited delivery options to the customers, your business is sure to suffer. A negative shipment experience not only impacts customer loyalty, it also degrades the market reputation of the company. Customers tend to shop frequently from retailers who devote additional resources for providing an enhanced shopping experience to their clients.
Having a well-defined shipment solution for your business strengthens your client base and cuts down the overall operation costs. Nowadays, most companies rely on multi-carrier rate shopping software for providing better shipping services. Such software makes it possible to leverage different carriers while monitoring your transportation decisions. If your business’s peak season is coming up, here are a few reasons why you should consider automating your shipment process with rate shop couriers:-

      • Reduced shipping expenses

Regardless of whether you are a well-established business or a growing company, multi-carrier shipping can help you widen profit margins. By getting involved in rate shopping, you can not only select the best carrier for your package but also compare the different service levels provided by that carrier. Setting up meaningful rate shop groups in your software will give an edge to your company over others. It will help you manage your shipping costs without compromising on the quality of service.

      • Fast shipment processing

The success of every e-commerce business is largely dependent on its shipment services. Customers tend to get agitated when product processing consumes too much time and results in delayed deliveries. In such cases, the chances of unexpected order cancellations become quite high. An integrated rate shopping shipment software can help you avoid such circumstances. It will allow you to establish better relationships with the customers and express your concern for them.

      • On-time delivery

Nothing enhances the rating of business like prompt service. Rate shopping algorithms are meticulously designed for ensuring the timely delivery of products. This is an excellent approach for businesses that want to keep up with the expectations of customers and the demands of the industry. Regardless of whether it is the peak season or heavy-traffic rush hour, your packages will always be delivered before time with rate shop couriers.

4 Issues You Can Avoid With Supply Chain Integration

Every business requires a strategically designed supply chain management plan. This is essential for improving production time, reducing overall costs and minimizing wastage in business operations. It is a universally adopted business strategy for establishing a strong and flexible relationship between the different levels of the chain. With such strategies, business-owners can easily coordinate and manage their transportation and logistics related activities.
Supply chain integration is an excellent way of keeping up with the changing market trends and customer demands. With a proper supply chain framework, it becomes extremely convenient to overcome different challenges and plan your organizational activities.
Here are a few obstacles that can be avoided with effective integrated supply chain management:-

      • Limited communication

All retail and wholesale businesses operate with the help and support of different vendors. Most of these vendors stay concerned only about minimizing their buying costs and maximizing their profits. The lack of communication between different links of the supply chain keeps the vendors restricted to their own niche. An integrated supply chain management improves connectivity and allows vendors to understand how actions of others affect their productivity.

      • Sudden order cancellations

Inventory-related issues always create a lot of mess. Consumers often request last minute order changes and cancellations which disturbs the whole supply chain. Almost all levels of the chain get affected by such actions and there is no standard way of predicting these things beforehand. An integrated supply chain management system proves to be of great help in such scenarios. It provides a better understanding of customers really want and helps in reducing redundancy of supplier functions.

      • Unavailability of efficient working force

Employees are the support system of every firm. If there is a lack of well-trained employees, the organization might face troubles in fulfilling the order requirements of clients. Supply chain integration has brought automation into the picture and made it easier for the suppliers to achieve their targets. By adopting such strategies, production and distribution processes can become smooth and straightforward.

      • Facility failures

Achieving targets on time becomes really difficult when a serious facility failure occurs. Software-related issues require immediate troubleshooting for continuation of normal business operations. With an integrated supply chain management, it is possible to get early warnings about possible problems. This reduces downtime and helps in improving productivity.

It’s a critical feature that enables you to track and manage the availability of stocked goods, raw materials, or spare parts. It also helps you with asset management, future inventory, barcode integration and price forecasting.
      Order management
Overseeing purchase orders is often a tedious and complex task. A good supply chain system helps you automate purchase order processes including generation and tracking of purchase orders, scheduling of supplier deliveries, and many others.

Top 4 Benefits of an Integrated Supply Chain Management

Did you know that the percentage of companies implementing integrated supply chain management is expected to rise from 60% to 83% by the end of 2018? Reports and surveys suggest that no less than 79% of companies who have implemented high-performing supply chains are seeing a much greater growth in revenue.
      Benefits of supply chain
For a better understanding of why it is suddenly gaining popularity among industries, let’s take a look at the top 4 benefits of an integrated supply chain system.

      1. Clearly, it is one of the most important needs for a company to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of unprecedented situations. The application of an integrated supply chain system gives a company the capacity to perform more easily and flexibly than any other method. The just-in-time characteristic eventually helps in bringing down the warehouse maintenance costs by limiting the space needed. Just-in-time essentially means assembling and manufacturing the products just when the order comes in.
      2. Management of a co-operative and innovative supply chain system effectively will only assist in producing better results and profit. This happens because product delivery gets way quicker and without much of a failure rate, thus resulting in a significantly higher profit margin.
      3. Warehouses in industries often struggle with over and under stocking problems. This happens majorly due to human error. By successfully implementing a supply chain management system, you wouldn’t need to bother about such issues and will be able to focus on more important areas of the workplace.
      4. With a tightly integrated system, the production planners have the capacity to focus on the order fluctuations, thus eliminating mistakes in delivery. It gets way easier and efficient to correctly count the quantity of products to be delivered in the right order, from the right box. This eventually results in a lesser number of poor product handling situations.
